Leave a comment telling me what you dreamed about last night. I find it fascinating.
I know its intrusive, but I can sense the girls dreams and sometimes its like watching a whole movie. These I call her epic dreams. Last night she had an epic dream. She was the Jennifer Connelly character in "Blood Diamond". I suppose its because of the context project she worked on yesterday regarding "The Myth of the Conflict Free Diamond". She often dreams she is a character in a film.
Not in "Blood Diamond", but often Connelly plays a woman facing a serious struggle. She is strong, but depicted as weak and needing the help of a man, or needing to use her sexuality to face the problems thrown at her. The painting "What would Jennifer Connelly do?" came from one these dreams, but I'm not sure if Megan knows.

In class today Megan was given as assignment that led her to re contextualize one of her activist pieces. I have posted it below. Here is more information on why its important for us to take a stand against all diamonds. I am pretty old, so I am old fashioned. But this information really made me think. I would never wear a diamond. If I had fingers. The demand from the consumers is what makes diamonds so incredibly powerful. With knowledge that we won’t be able to 100% stop conflict diamonds from being mined and traded (perhaps reduce, but not eliminate) – is that enough to comfort us? Are we ok that 10,000 children will become child soldiers or enslaved workers this year, instead of – say – 50,000?- source: http://cleanleansharp.wordpress.com/2011/08/31/theres-no-such-thing-as-a-conflict-free-diamond/
Assignment: Using a library book as a site specific piece for the next person reading the book. Megan chose "Emily Post's Complete Book of Wedding Etiquette" to highlight how outdated the idea of needing a diamond to be part of a wedding ceremony and marriage is, when most progressive people would agree that having a diamond is not worth the life of a child across the world. Think about it.
